WTP Technologies Ltd. is a Canadian company that was inspired by the need to disrupt the conventional way the world’s waste treatment industry processes municipal solid waste (MSW). The Company is a systems integrator established to develop, market, and distribute turnkey municipal solid waste (MSW) diversion systems for a variety of waste streams and feedstocks for corporate and agricultural clients, municipalities, public authorities, and host governments. The process technologies we use enable clients to recycle and dispose of their MSW in an environmentally sound manner that does not produce toxic emissions-converting waste materials into feedstock for renewable energy production (biogas and electricity) and valuable industrial and agricultural co-products, while significantly reducing the long-term impact on landfill capacities worldwide.
WTP integrates various commercially available, patented, market-tested and -deployed technology using non-combustion anaerobic digestion (AD) to digest and convert a variety of waste streams and feedstocks into multiple, commercially usable outputs, including green energy (green fuel and green power), fertilizers, and other marketable commodities-to meet customers’ need. The Company’s waste treatment systems incorporate highly efficient processes to remove the high-value recyclables for resale and complete the waste-to-energy and/or waste-to-product conversion process. These processes greatly reduce the volume of the remaining solid waste fraction to be landfilled.
We believe our waste management systems are highly scalable. As landfills worldwide begin to reach capacity, public resistance and regulatory pressures severely limit the construction of new landfills. Coupled with changing world perceptions about the need to increase recycling efforts, the Company believes the addressable worldwide market for its waste systems is vast. Furthermore, the need to reduce the amount of MSW going into landfills (thereby significantly extending their useful lives) is exacerbated by international forces, in particular, other countries’ cessation of importing recyclable waste materials due to high rates of contamination. The worldwide trend is clear: the practice of shipping locally generated waste elsewhere is becoming unsustainable.
The addressable worldwide market for our systems is vast. Broadly, the amount of municipal solid waste generated worldwide is expected to grow faster than urbanization rates in the coming decades, reaching 2.2 billion tons/year by 2025 and 4.2 billion tons by 2050 (World Bank). In particular, consumption and the resulting waste production is increasing in developing countries.
Through our own development capabilities and joint-venture arrangements with key supply chain partners, WTP intends to expand worldwide the distribution and production of our integrated MSW diversion systems and other standalone products under license through established industry channels.
